Modern Web Server for Digital Publishers
Surphia is a modern web server for digital publishers who need to foster a community of interest around a common pool of digital publications – a “digital commons.”
Inspired by the origins and authenticity of the world wide web, Surphia uses light-weight semantics and composable UX design to standardize a digital commons so that users can securely access and share digital publications on their own terms without the intrusion of large platforms.
The vision of Surphia is to create an ecosystem of connected digital commons where many can offer and many can consume experiences of value, for value.
The original idea of the web was that it should be a collaborative space where you can communicate through sharing information.
– Tim Berners-Lee
Surphia is a W3C standards compliant web server configured with application software, a modern database, and other resources; it can be simply deployed to any IT environment (cloud, corporate, ISP, or localhost). The server offers an innovative web architecture.
Traditional web applications map field data elements directly to display templates. This constrains the system to support pre-determined contexts resulting in poor user experiences.
Page Paradigm
Schema on Write (when published)
Fixed presentation, single website
Optimized for Rules based “Push” Personalization
Surphia maps flexible content objects to light-weight semantic structures (directed graphs). This enables adaptive delivery to a wide range of consumer contexts for optimal user experiences.
Object Paradigm
Schema on Read (when delivered)
Adaptive presentation, many user interfaces
Optimized for User Controlled “Pull” Personalization
The benefit of Surphia's innovative design is that enables users to freely control their own experiences of the digital commons. Key features include:
Surphia enables people to easily utilize standard semantic elements and linked data to efficiently create, publish and curate user experience objects and managed content resources; this enables collaboration, aggregation, and distribution of interactive digital publications.
Surphia provides API capabilities supported by access controls determined by publishers and and by subscriptions selected by consumers; this enables dynamic delivery of componentized digital publications to users in a wide range of user contexts.
Surphia has a standardized, yet flexible architecture. Each publishing server is designed to be federated with other publishing servers (and corporate systems) to create more robust, scalable solutions – essentially it’s designed out of box to foster a network effect.
Digital content publishers and team leaders who need to deploy information, knowledge and interactive media solutions to their customers, partners and employees are constrained by the complex and costly IT environments in which they operate.
Large SaaS platforms result in vendor lock-in and user data is ultimately shared with 3rd-parties for their own business purposes. In addition, established web applications are designed for out-dated requirements; incremental innovation requires more complex product deployments resulting in bigger budgets, greater orchestration of resources, and higher risk of failure.
To address these challenges, Surphia offers an elegant, light-weight web server architecture that is easily deployed into individually hosted and corporate IT environments. This enables digital publishers to deploy innovative solutions faster, and at lower costs.
Unlike web content management systems that are designed as general purpose, monolithic templating solutions, Surphia, by design, can extend existing systems with value-added business capabilities, smaller budgets, and iterative releases.
With Surphia, individual publishers and teams can rapidly deploy modern digital publications to suit their community of interest at lower costs and reduced risks, without vendor lock-in and exploitation of user data.
